What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking for an enthusiastic class teacher to teach our mixed-age Year 2/3 class in our small village school. We would love to hear from someone who enjoys teaching, works well as part of a team and wants to make a difference to children’s lives.

Purpose of the role:
To teach our mixed-age Year 2/3 class and the Year 3/4 maths group when the whole school splits for maths, helping every child to learn well, grow in confidence and feel part of school life.
The postholder will carry out the professional duties of a class teacher in line with the Teachers’ Standards and support our Christian vision, “Let your light shine”.
Our curriculum:
We use Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised for phonics and White Rose Maths planning. Our foundation subjects are based on Kapow. Experience of these programmes is desirable, but not essential. Training and support will be given to help the successful candidate use them confidently. Maths is taught in mixed-age groups of Year 1/2, Year 3/4 and Year 5/6. The postholder will teach the Year 3/4 maths group, using White Rose Maths planning and adapting teaching to meet the needs of both year groups.
Teaching and learning:
Plan and teach a broad and balanced curriculum for the Year 2/3 class, taking account of the different expectations in Key Stages 1 and 2.
For maths, plan, teach and assess the Year 3/4 group against the expectations for each year group. Use the school’s curriculum plans and agreed programmes to build on what pupils already know.
Adapt teaching so that children receive the support and challenge they need.
Teach reading, writing and mathematics well, with regular opportunities for pupils to practise and apply their learning across the curriculum.
Use Little Wandle consistently when teaching phonics and supporting pupils who need further help with early reading. Work with the phonics lead to identify gaps and plan appropriate support.
Use assessment to check understanding, address misconceptions and decide what to teach next. Keep useful records and report clearly on progress to parents and carers.
Create an organised classroom with clear routines, high expectations and positive relationships. Follow the school’s behaviour policy consistently.
Work with teaching assistants so that support is well planned and helps children become more independent.
Inclusion and pupil wellbeing
Know the children in your class well and take account of their learning, social and emotional needs.
Work with the SENDCo, families and other professionals to plan, put in place and review support for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.
Use agreed strategies and individual plans to help pupils access learning and take part fully in school life.
Promote respectful relationships and respond promptly to concerns about bullying, discrimination or a child’s wellbeing.
Working with others
Work as part of our small school team, sharing ideas and resources and supporting colleagues.
Build constructive relationships with parents and carers, keeping them informed about their child’s learning and any concerns.
Work with colleagues to support children moving between classes and from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2.
Contribute to school improvement and curriculum development, with responsibilities agreed with the Headteacher and appropriate to the role.
Take part in staff meetings, parents’ meetings, professional development and appraisal. Use feedback to improve your practice.
Contribute to educational visits, celebrations and the wider life of the school within agreed working arrangements.
Support the school’s Christian ethos and values.
Professional responsibilities and safeguarding
Follow school policies and procedures, including safeguarding, attendance, health and safety, confidentiality and data protection.
Be alert to concerns about children’s safety and welfare. Record and report concerns promptly through the school’s safeguarding procedures.
Complete required safeguarding training and maintain appropriate professional boundaries and standards of conduct.
Use school resources responsibly and undertake an appropriate share of supervisory duties in line with school arrangements.
