Head of Chemistry job summary
We are seeking to appoint an ambitious, talented and inspiring Head of Chemistry not only will you be an excellent classroom practitioner you will have the ability to inspire, lead and develop our Chemistry department.
Following a College reorganisation, you will join a newly formed Science Team and will benefit from entering a department who are keen to work collaboratively to promote and build on the Science department’s successful record. The team welcome forward-thinking initiatives and are able to offer a new colleague advice, support and professional development opportunities in a friendly, positive and creative environment.
Our Science faculty has sixteen fully equipped laboratories across our two campuses, together with numerous preparation areas, offer outstanding resources for the teaching and learning of Science. Science is a highly successful and popular subject in the College. At GCSE Level, students study Double Award Science or opt for Triple Award Science. There is a large uptake in Science subjects at Advanced Level, where we offer Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Extended Projects. Science is also an integral part of our highly successful STEM programme.

Thurston Community College is a large popular mixed comprehensive school. It comprises of two distinct and specialist sites. Our Thurston Campus, for students from Year 7 to Year 11 is situated four miles east
of Bury St Edmunds. Thurston Sixth; Beyton Campus is located in the nearby village of Beyton, offering a bespoke centre of excellence for students in Year 12 and Year 13. Both locations provide an exciting,
