Saint George’s Church of England School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly skilled Head of Computer Science to lead our Computer Science provision across the secondary phase.

This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional classroom practitioner who is passionate about Computer Science and believes that every young person should have the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to flourish.

Our school has a long history within the Gravesham community and is part of Aletheia Academies Trust. We are an all-through Church of England school, serving students from 4-18, with the secondary phase based on Meadow Road in Gravesend. Computer Science is an exciting and developing area of our curriculum. The school currently offers Computer Science through GCSE and A-level, with a strong focus on programming, computational thinking, algorithms, problem-solving and the underlying principles of computer systems.

About the role

As Head of Computer Science, you will:

• Provide inspirational leadership for the subject across the secondary phase.
• Lead the continued development of an ambitious, coherent and engaging Computer Science curriculum.
• Teach engaging and challenging lessons across the relevant key stages.
• Develop students’ computational thinking, programming and problem-solving skills.
• Lead colleagues in developing excellent teaching and learning.
• Monitor student progress and use assessment information to drive improvement.
• Support strong outcomes at GCSE and A-level.
• Develop enrichment and wider opportunities that inspire students to pursue Computer Science beyond school.
• Ensure that all students, including those with SEND and those from disadvantaged backgrounds, can thrive within the subject.

We are looking for someone who combines excellent subject knowledge with genuine enthusiasm for teaching and leadership. You may already be an experienced subject leader, or you may be an outstanding Computer Science teacher ready to take your first formal leadership role.

You will be a reflective and collaborative professional who can articulate a clear vision for the future of Computer Science while also being an excellent practitioner in the classroom.

Saint George's Church of England School is a popular wide ability school for boys and girls. It is located in pleasant green fields and is within easy reach of the A2/M2 motorway with excellent transport links to London. In 2016 it was the most oversubscribed high school in Kent.
Saint George’s Church of England School converted to Academy status in November 2011 and is a founder member of the Aletheia Anglican Academies Trust formed in December 2014.
The school recently underwent a section 8 inspection (February 2017) and was considered to have remained 'Good' overall with 'Outstanding' for Leadership and Management; continued improvement since the last inspection was also recognised. I recommend it to you as a friendly community, where an energetic, willing, supportive staff work enthusiastically and collaboratively to enable students to excel.
We are delighted that we have been able to expand our age range to open a new primary department on site, making Saint George's an all through school from 4-18 from September 2019.
