About our school
We are a new 11-16 school serving 600 students (120 PAN), growing year-on-year, we will move into our purpose-built site in 2026/27. Being part of the Wisbech Campus enables shared facilities, collaboration and excellent opportunities for staff and students.
The Role
We are seeking an inspiring and knowledgeable Head of Geography to lead the creation and implementation of a rigorous, knowledge‑rich Geography curriculum.
As one of our early subject leaders, you will have the unique opportunity to build a department from the ground up—shaping curriculum, pedagogy, resources, and enrichment as the school expands.
This role requires someone with strong subject expertise and the ability to mentor colleagues, nurture emerging talent, and build a cohesive, high‑performing team over time.
What You Will Do
- Lead the design of a coherent, knowledge‑rich Geography curriculum that develops secure substantive and disciplinary knowledge.
- Establish, model, and maintain high expectations for teaching, learning, and assessment.
- Build the long‑term vision, ethos, and identity of Geography at our new school.
- Mentor and support new colleagues as the department grows—helping to develop confident, expert practitioners.
- Take an active role in recruitment, induction, and the professional development of future team members.
- Create high‑quality resources and opportunities for fieldwork and enrichment that foster curiosity about the world.
What We’re Looking For
- A passionate geographer with excellent subject knowledge and experience in knowledge‑rich curriculum design.
- Someone who understands the importance of powerful geographical knowledge—place, process, and concepts—and can embed this into an ambitious curriculum.
- A reflective practitioner with strong pedagogical understanding and the ability to coach, mentor, and develop others.
- Experience leading or contributing to high‑quality KS3 provision (with KS4/KS5 experience an advantage as the school grows).
- A leader excited by the challenge and opportunity of establishing a new department in a growing school.
