What skills and experience we're looking for

While you must be confident in teaching Maths and Further Maths to A level, previous management experience is not essential. We are committed to nurturing talent and will provide support to help you develop the leadership skills required to head a department of this stature.

Candidates suitable for the role will:

  • have strong subject knowledge and be confident in teaching Maths and Further Maths at A Level to high achieving students
  • be willing to use a range of strategies to teach across the ability range
  • be passionate about personal and professional development and demonstrate a willingness to engage with the findings of evidence-based research through our whole school CPD programme
  • help extend and enrich students’ school experiences beyond the curriculum
  • have the ability to communicate effectively with staff, students and parents

We are seeking a Head of Maths who possesses the deep subject knowledge and leadership potential to inspire our curious, diverse and highly motivated students.

Maths is the heartbeat of our Sixth Form; it is our most popular subject, with over 270 students currently studying it at A Level and 45 pursuing Further Maths. Outcomes for 2025 were:

  • Destinations: A significant number of students progress to study Maths at world leading universities
