Head of School (Assistant Headteacher) job summary

There is a vacancy for a Head of School at the due to the retirement of the current postholder. This is a highly influential and critical role with Francis Barber PRU.
You will take full responsibility for the progress, wellbeing health and safety of the pupils and staff at one of the sites at Francis Barber and with the support of the senior leadership team and subject leaders provide a full-time timetable of academic and practical lessons. Your key role will be to ensure the smooth day to day running of the site.

The Head of School will work with the Heads’ Team to provide vision, leadership and direction for the continuing improvement of the whole PRU. Francis Barber supports all the schools in the borough to reduce permanent exclusions by flexibly responding to the varied needs of challenging young people.

Francis Barber is a large, friendly and inclusive PRU that prides itself on helping the young people it works with to achieve their full potential. It is also a complex PRU, catering for a number of specific groups of young people. These include: pupils who have been permanently excluded, those who are dual registered, pupils who have recently moved into the area, and some who have not regularly attended school in the past. OFSTED rated the PRU as ‘good’ with ‘outstanding’ features in 2013, commenting that ‘‘There is a friendly and welcoming ethos and a variety of activities both during the day and after school. These, along with good keyworking, help young people make changes which enable them to be successful in their education’.
