What skills and experience we're looking for

Our Head of School will support the Executive Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team in the creation and implementation of distinctly Christian vision. They will embed the Trust and School visions into every area of the role and will challenge and support others in achieving the same.

Our Head of School will promote the need for pupils to actively engage in Excellence, Exploration and Encouragement and support LAAT’s belief that all children need to flourish in a creative environment that allows them to become all that God intended.

In our Trust, a Head of School provides professional leadership and is responsible for the efficient day to day management of the School as part of LAAT, leading the school community in promoting positive attitudes to learning throughout the whole community.

The Head of School will work collaboratively as part of the wider Trust, with the understanding that it is one organisation working in partnership to achieve the best outcomes for all pupils.

The postholder may be required to work in any of the Trust schools as directed by the Deputy Chief Executive and in consultation with the Executive Headteacher.

What the school offers its staff

Weston St Mary is a small school with a big heart. We are seeking to appoint a talented and dynamic Head of School at Weston St Mary from the start of the 2024-25 academic year. As well as having day-to-day oversight of the leadership and management of the school, you will also work closely, with the support of the Executive Headteacher, to develop an exciting, happy, successful and creative school.

You will be joining a very ambitious and forward-thinking organisation, so we are seeking outstanding candidates who want to develop themselves to support our educational vision, provide strong leadership and effective support to colleagues and raise standards for our pupils.

Weston St Mary has a very strong relationship with its nearby neighbour, Whaplode C of E Primary School, and the school shares an Executive Headteacher. You will be part of a strong and supportive Senior Leadership Team who work closely together across the two schools.

This would be an excellent opportunity for an ambitious existing Senior Leader to work alongside our Executive Headteacher to develop excellent leadership skills and to further their career development.

Continuing to teach part time is an important aspect of the Head of School role at Weston St Mary and you will be able to demonstrate inspirational practice in this area. A strength in Maths would also be an advantage as you will also have an opportunity to lead a subject across the two schools.

Commitment to safeguarding

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We will require the successful applicant to undertake an enhanced criminal record check via the DBS.
In line with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023, please be advised that if shortlisted, we'll carry out internet searches to support our commitment to safer recruitment. Please note that the purpose of this is to identify any incidents/issues that have happened, and are publicly available online, which the school might want to explore with applicants at interview.

At Weston St Mary Church of England Primary School our aim is to inspire and encourage our children to believe in their ability to succeed through learning. This vision will enable them to achieve and succeed in reaching their full potential and beyond, now and for their future.
Within our school we work very hard to create a team of teachers, non-teaching and support staff that will support each child in reaching their potential. Many who visit us comment on the strength of our ‘staff team’ and their shared commitment to help every child in the school achieve their best.
We value the broad and balanced curriculum which our staff offers and all children are able to access not only academic, but creative and physical areas of the National Curriculum fully, so that they receive the highest standard of education.
We are a school that prides itself on our Christian values and aims to ensure all of our pupils feel happy, secure and valued, enabling them to make a worthwhile contribution as young people within their community.
Our school provides a gateway for children to discover, explore and learn in a caring environment. Childhood is a magical, wonderful time and our pupils follow a varied and active programme designed to give them the opportunity to build confidence and learn everything they will need for their future.
