Health & Safety Officer - Astrea Academy Trust
Contract: Permanent, Term Time Only (39 weeks per year)
Working hours: 37 hours per week (term time), with regular travel across Trust academies and occasional flexibility by agreement
Salary: £41,050 FTE | £35,895 pro rata
Astrea Academy Trust is seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Health & Safety Officer to support the delivery of a consistent, practical and effective health and safety approach across our 26 academies. Working closely with the Head of Estates and Health & Safety, you will play a key role in reviewing practices, supporting leaders and driving continuous improvement. This is a varied, hands-on role requiring regular travel, where you will build strong relationships across schools, provide constructive challenge, and help foster a positive culture where risks are understood and managed effectively.
Key responsibilities include:
- Deliver a programme of health and safety reviews across academies, including site visits, evidence gathering and clear reporting
- Track and monitor actions, ensuring improvements are completed effectively and within agreed timescales
- Provide practical advice and guidance to academy leaders to support compliance and strengthen local arrangements
- Support the development and review of risk assessments, safe systems of work and emergency procedures
- Assist with incident reporting, investigation and analysis to identify trends and prevent recurrence
- Deliver briefings, guidance materials and updates to promote awareness and best practice
What we are looking for:
- Experience in a health and safety role, ideally within education or a multi-site organisation
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and risk management principles
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to challenge constructively and build positive relationships
- Highly organised with the ability to manage a varied workload and travel between sites
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach with strong attention to detail
- Commitment to promoting a positive health and safety culture across the Trust
