At Coltishall Primary School, our HLTAs are trusted professionals who play a vital role in teaching and learning across the school. Start date, September 2026, however, the position is available from 14 April 2026 should a successful candidate be able to start earlier.

This role offers a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys teaching and leading learning, but without the workload and pressures of a full class teacher role.

You will deliver lessons across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, primarily covering teachers’ PPA time, working closely with staff to ensure pupils experience engaging, purposeful and well-structured learning.

Because the role moves between classes and year groups, we are looking for someone who is organised, confident and able to work independently, while also building strong professional relationships with teachers and support staff.

About our school

Coltishall Primary School is a warm, inclusive and ambitious school community where relationships are strong and children are encouraged to flourish.

We are proud of our supportive staff culture, where colleagues work collaboratively and leadership values professional judgement and wellbeing.

Our school is built around strong values, a restorative approach to behaviour and a genuine belief that schools should be joyful places to learn and work.

The role

The successful candidate will:

  • Deliver high-quality lessons across KS1 and KS2
  • Cover teachers’ PPA time across the school
  • Deliver learning using teacher planning
  • Support pupils’ progress and engagement in lessons
  • Maintain the calm, positive classroom environments our school is known for
  • Communicate effectively with teachers to ensure smooth transitions between lessons
  • Organise learning and resources where necessary
  • The HLTA will also receive their own PPA time to support preparation and organisation.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds HLTA status or equivalent experience
  • Is confident leading whole-class learning
  • Can work independently and proactively
  • Builds strong relationships with pupils and colleagues
  • Has high expectations of behaviour and learning
  • Is organised and adaptable when moving between year groups

What we offer

  • A friendly, welcoming and supportive staff team
  • Enthusiastic children who enjoy learning
  • Leadership that values staff wellbeing and professional trust
  • Opportunities to develop experience across the primary age range
  • A positive school culture built on strong relationships and shared values

Visits welcome

We warmly encourage prospective candidates to visit the school and experience our community first-hand.

To arrange a visit or informal conversation, please contact the school office on 01603 737481.
