HLTA - Pastoral and Safeguarding

Payscale: Point 12 (FTE £28,598 per year, approx. £24,461 pro-rata)

37 hours per week, Monday - Friday

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally:

  • Have experience of working across the primary age range
  • Have experience working in a TA or HLTA role
  • Have experience of covering classes
  • Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
  • Be enthusiastic, ambitious and serious about improving children’s life chances through education
  • Be highly organised, conscientious and able to set clear priorities when managing a busy workload
  • Be able work cooperatively and communicate clearly with fellow colleagues, parents and pupils
  • Have a ‘can-do’ attitude and has the ability to use their initiative
  • Be able to work flexibly and professionally

About Role

We are looking for an experienced HLTA to join our team, working 37 hours per week, 39 weeks per year with the working hours required being 8.30am - 4pm.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead Pastoral Care: Build strong, supportive relationships with pupils to improve attendance, engagement, and emotional readiness to learn. Co-ordinate and deliver nurture sessions, wellbeing interventions, and targeted programmes.
  • Champion Behaviour Management: Implement behaviour strategies across the school, coach staff in de-escalation and restorative practices, and provide on-the-ground support during the school day, including overseeing our ‘Nest' and 'Den' spaces at break and lunchtimes.
  • Safeguarding: Act as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), supporting the Headteacher with safeguarding processes, recording concerns, and contributing to multi-agency meetings.
  • Support Families & Attendance: Work closely with parents/carers to strengthen home-school relationships, contribute to attendance strategies, and signpost families to appropriate services.
  • Support Teaching & Learning: Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging learning activities for individuals and groups under the guidance of teaching staff. Adapt materials to meet the needs of pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural needs, and provide short-term class cover when required.
  • General Duties: Maintain accurate records, assist with pupil transitions, and provide reintegration support following exclusions or absences.
