Classroom Teacher - INDIGO is accountable for planning, resourcing and delivering highly effective lessons across an allocated timetable, leading effective tutor provision and contributing to curriculum development so that students make strong progress and achieve high academic standards.

The role combines responsibility for effective teaching and assessment with maintaining high standards of behaviour, safeguarding and curriculum implementation. You will also support students with SEND or additional learning needs through agreed strategies and interventions and work collaboratively with colleagues, students, parents, carers and external partners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Secure strong progress and attainment for students through effective teaching, curriculum delivery and high expectations for learning.
  • Support students to access learning, develop understanding, participate confidently and become increasingly independent.
  • Maintain a safe and purposeful learning environment by promoting high standards of behaviour and supporting agreed classroom routines and behaviour strategies.
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people and comply with Trust safeguarding, child protection, health and safety and related procedures.
  • Monitor student engagement, understanding and progress, provide constructive feedback and contribute to accurate assessment and evidence of learning.
  • Support students with SEND or additional learning needs through agreed strategies, interventions and appropriate examination or assessment support.
  • Build positive professional relationships and work collaboratively with teachers, support colleagues, parents, carers and external partners to support students effectively.
  • Direct and supervise support staff assigned to lessons and contribute positively to collaborative professional practice.
  • Prepare and organise appropriate learning resources and contribute to intervention groups, homework clubs, subject support, extra-curricular activities and the wider life of the school where required.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

You will hold a good quality degree, a PGCE or equivalent qualification in secondary education and Qualified Teacher Status.

You will be a skilled classroom practitioner able to use a range of teaching approaches to promote learning, engagement and progress, with a commitment to overcoming barriers to learning and helping students achieve their potential.

You will communicate clearly and appropriately, establish positive professional relationships with students, colleagues and parents, and manage your workload effectively while meeting competing priorities.

You will be a positive role model who can inspire confidence and work collaboratively with support staff and colleagues. Good IT skills, confidentiality, flexibility, effective listening skills and a commitment to professional development are also required.

You must be committed to safeguarding, equality and promoting the welfare of children and young people, understand the importance of local safeguarding procedures and be suitable to work with children.
