Invigilator job summary
This role is responsible for supporting the delivery of examinations in a way that ensures all regulatory requirements are met and that students are able to complete their assessments in a calm, orderly and secure environment. The postholder contributes directly to the integrity and reliability of examination outcomes by ensuring procedures are followed accurately and consistently. The role also supports student wellbeing during examination periods by maintaining vigilance, responding appropriately to incidents and ensuring that all students can access examinations fairly, including through the implementation of access arrangements and reasonable adjustments where required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure examinations are conducted in line with awarding body regulations and Trust procedures, maintaining a secure and compliant environment
Supervise students during examinations, maintaining a calm, orderly and focused setting throughout each session
Prepare examination venues in accordance with requirements, including seating plans, materials and equipment
Manage the distribution, collection and security of all examination papers and materials before, during and after examinations
Maintain active vigilance to prevent malpractice and respond appropriately to any irregularities in line with procedures
Promote and maintain appropriate student behaviour in accordance with examination rules and expectations
Monitor student wellbeing during examinations and report any concerns in line with safeguarding procedures
Support the implementation of access arrangements and reasonable adjustments to ensure fair access for all students
Complete all required documentation accurately, including attendance registers and incident reports
Build and maintain positive professional relationships with colleagues, students and stakeholders to support effective examination delivery
Follow all Trust policies and procedures, including safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion
Attend required training and briefings to remain up to date with examination regulations and procedures
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
Good communication and interpersonal skills to convey instructions clearly and respond appropriately within examination regulations
Good organisational and time management skills to support the effective running of examination sessions
Ability to ensure students comply with examination regulations and conditions
Ability to recognise and respond appropriately to minor behavioural issues in line with expectations
Ability to follow examination procedures and instructions accurately
An understanding of the key requirements of examination invigilation
Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Flexible and adaptable approach to changing requirements
Ability to remain attentive for extended periods, including patrolling and standing as required
GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade C or above (desirable)
