Invigilator

Hourly Rate: £14.88 per hour
Contract Type: Part-time, Casual Worker
Availability: You must be available 08:00 - 16:00 during the exam seasons (March, May, June, July).

About the Role

The Excelsior Academy is looking for reliable and attentive Invigilators to support the smooth and secure delivery of examinations. Working under the guidance of the Exams Manager, you will help ensure all exams are conducted fairly, in compliance with JCQ regulations, and in a calm and controlled environment.

No previous invigilation experience is required, as full training will be provided. This is an excellent opportunity to join a professional team and make a vital contribution to students’ exam experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of exam rooms, ensuring they meet JCQ and academy requirements.

  • Admit and seat candidates according to examination arrangements.

  • Supervise examinations, maintaining a calm and compliant environment and minimizing disruption.

  • Distribute exam papers and materials, ensuring all candidates have what they need.

  • Respond to candidate questions appropriately and manage any emergencies or irregularities.

  • Complete attendance registers and report any incidents or suspected malpractice.

  • Collect and check scripts, ensuring candidates’ details are correct, and return them securely to the Exams Manager.

  • Participate in training and updates to maintain competence and understanding of JCQ regulations.

  • Assist with other exams-related tasks as required, including facilitating access arrangements for candidates.

  • Reliable, flexible, and available during main exam periods.

  • Confident with effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Able to work well as part of a team.

  • Calm and reassuring presence for candidates.

  • Willing to follow strict confidentiality and security procedures.

  • Basic IT skills (email, mobile messaging).

  • Eager to learn and achieve competence in invigilation procedures.

Requirements

  • Availability during exam seasons (March, May, June, July), between 08:00 and 16:00.

  • Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.

  • Proof of Right to Work in the UK.

  • Satisfactory employment references.
