What skills and experience we're looking for
Education & Qualifications
Essential:
- Be willing and able to obtain a Level 2 Certificate in Food Safety through the school within 6 weeks of beginning work in the position.
- Be willing and able to obtain Allergen and Food Safety Training through the school within 6 weeks of beginning work in the position.
Desirable:
- Hold a current, level 2 Certificate in food safety
- Have had allergen and Food Safety Training
Knowledge & Experience
Essential:
- Understand the basic principles of Food Safety and Health and Safety
- Have experience in a similar position in the kitchen of a public organisation or commercial company
Desirable:
- Know current legislation relating to food preparation and nutritional standards in schools
Skills & Abilities
Essential:
- Have good communication skills
Personal Qualities
Essential:
- Be prepared to continue their professional development to meet the requirements of the role

Job Purpose / Focus
To assist as required in the daily food preparation ensuring that the school policy on quality and standards is met and to be aware of current national legislation regarding nutritional standards in schools.
To also assist with the clearing and cleaning of all crockery, cutlery and equipment used in the preparation and presentation of food ensuring that the school policy on health and hygiene is met and to be aware of current national legislation regarding health and safety.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- To assist in food preparation and serving as required, including for the ‘grab and go’ selection.
- To use sundry items of equipment subject to legislation and training from the Chef Manager and Assistant Cook, recording training on each item.
- To assist in ensuring that all food and beverages are served at the specific times
- To be aware of the menu for the day together with the appropriate portion sizes
- To advise and assist the Chef Manager in preventing any shortfall in requirements
- To maintain all condiments and sauces and ensure their availability
- To ensure tables, chairs, trolleys, equipment and counters are kept clean and tidy using the appropriate cleaning materials

- To maintain confidentiality in all aspects of Parkwood Hall Co-operative Academy. The nature of the working environment entrusts people with confidential information. Any breach of this confidentiality will constitute gross misconduct.
- To co-operate with all Parkwood Hall Co-operative Academy staff in maintaining good relationships with outside agencies and the public to promote and uphold the school’s image.
- To ensure the health and safety of self, colleagues, students, and visitors and to report any such matters to the maintenance team, senior managers or Health and Safety Committee as appropriate.
- To perform any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the position as requested by the Line Manager, and/or Principle.
