We are seeking an inspirational and dynamic primary teacher to make a significant contribution across years 5 and 6 at Hexham Middle School. We are looking for a driven, enthusiastic professional who places pupil success at the heart of what they do. As a member of the KS2 team, you will be responsible for shaping our pupils to be respectful young people who have a strong engagement in their education and personal development and who have high aspirations for themselves and their futures.
We are a large and flourishing middle school set in the historical market town of Hexham and are co-located with Queen Elizabeth High School as part of Hadrian Learning Trust. In September 2021, we moved into brand new school buildings with state-of-the-art learning facilities. We cherish the strong partnerships that exist between pupils, parents/carers, staff and the local community making this a successful, friendly and welcoming school. Pupils at Hexham Middle School have an eagerness to learn and achieve very well academically.
We place a high value on our activity programme beyond the classroom and are proud of the many and varied enriching activities that form part of our educational offer. We have high expectations of behaviour and attitudes and strive to enhance the personal development of our pupils through a well-sequenced curriculum experience. We invest strongly in our teachers’ professional development and the successful applicant will be well-supported to become the best they can be.
We welcome applications from teachers who can demonstrate the commitment and ability to:
Build relationships rooted in mutual respect
Value education in its broadest sense to help us shape citizens of the wider world
Ensure that all pupils aspire to achieve their full potential
Inspire pupils across the full range of National Curriculum subjects
Be creative in approaches to teaching and learning
Applications from ECTs or experienced teachers are very welcome. The successful applicant will access a supportive induction package. As a KS2 Teacher at HMS, you will join our primary teaching team led by our Head of Key Stage 2. You will teach a wide range of subjects to your year group including English, mathematics, science, history, geography, RE and PSHE. You may teach other subjects but the children do also access specialist teaching in subjects such as technology, art and music.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to obtain a satisfactory Certificate of Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Hadrian Learning Trust was established as an academy converter in 2016. The Trust currently comprises Queen Elizabeth High School and Hexham Middle School. Queen Elizabeth High School (QE) is a high-performing 13–18 comprehensive school whose origins date back to 1599. It is situated in the historic market town of Hexham, in a beautiful part of Northumberland, a short drive from Newcastle and Carlisle. With just over 1,300 students on roll, it is a popular and successful school, with a particularly strong sixth form. As well as attracting students from Hexham and its rural hinterland, about a third of students come from outside the catchment area. The school values its reputation as a warm, friendly, welcoming school, and relationships amongst staff and students are excellent. We benefit from a fantastic working and learning environment with first-class facilities following a move into brand new buildings in 2021, adjacent to our front-facing Grade II listed Hydro building, which was refurbished. QE shares its location with Hexham Middle School, with which it has a very close working relationship. Both schools have their own distinct identities but work in tandem to enable some sharing of facilities, teaching and subject leadership. Cross-trust collaboration is overseen by an executive team comprising the Trust’s executive lead, the schools’ headteachers, the Chief Financial Officer and the Business & HR Manager.
