Job Overview
Are you an exceptional mathematics teacher with the expertise and drive to influence practice beyond your own classroom?
The Wellington Academy is seeking a Lead Practitioner of Mathematics to play a pivotal role in raising standards of teaching and learning across the department.
This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding practitioner who is passionate about evidence-informed teaching, coaching others, and securing excellent outcomes for students.
The Role
As Lead Practitioner, you will combine high-quality classroom teaching with a wider remit to develop pedagogy, coach colleagues, and strengthen curriculum design in mathematics. Working closely with the Head of Department and senior leaders, you will help shape teaching practice and support ongoing improvement across the academy.
Key Responsibilities
Consistently deliver outstanding mathematics lessons, modelling best practice and high expectations for all learners.
Act as a role model for teaching and learning within the department and across the academy.
Coach and mentor colleagues, including Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and those requiring additional support.
Provide high-quality feedback following lesson observations to support sustained improvement.
Contribute to the development and implementation of a coherent, ambitious mathematics curriculum.
Support the design and use of effective assessment strategies to raise attainment.
Apply educational research and evidence-based approaches to improve classroom practice.
Design and deliver subject-specific professional development (CPD).
Work with the Head of Department to monitor teaching quality and analyse student performance data to close attainment gaps.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a candidate who:
Has a proven track record of outstanding teaching and excellent student outcomes in mathematics.
Has experience of coaching, mentoring, or leading pedagogical initiatives.
Possesses secure and up-to-date knowledge of the National Curriculum and developments in mathematics education.
Has excellent communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
Is committed to collaboration, professional learning, and continuous improvement.
Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Mathematics or a related subject.
