What skills and experience we're looking for
We have an exciting opportunity for an organised and enthusiastic Lead Science Technician to join the team at Hazel Grove High School. The duties will include providing an efficient and effective technician support service to the school’s science department.

This position is contracted on a 37 hours per week Term Time only basis. This means you will mainly work when the school is open to pupils and will not need to work during the school holidays unless the contract requires you to do so. In total you will be in work for a minimum of37 out of 52 weeks.
Job Purpose
- Liaise with the Laurus Trust Lead Technician in order to help lead the planning and preparation of new materials/equipment/apparatus throughout the year
- Lead the School Senior Science Technicians within the school in order to ensure that all materials/equipment/apparatus is set up appropriately for practical lessons or demonstrations across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
Key Skills & Experience
- Sound educational background including GCSE’s in Maths and English (A*-C) or equivalent, as well as A-Level (A*-C) Science or equivalent qualification
- Knowledge of Biology, Chemistry and Physics
- Prior experience in a similar role

In our recent ‘Good’ Ofsted inspection in January 2022, Hazel Grove was classified as Outstanding in the areas of Leadership and Management; Personal Development and also in our Sixth Form provision with inspectors noting that staff “are highly positive about what leaders do to support them”.
We were so proud of our students who achieved truly impressive GCSE results in 2024. We had a progress 8 score of 0.22 which shows that student outcomes were excellent. Year 11 students achieving 9-4 in English and Maths was 73% and 50% achieved Grades 9-5. Furthermore, around a fifth of students achieved the top grades 7-9. In our third year of entering Year 9 students for GCSE Languages, an incredible 74% of students achieved a strong pass at grade 5 and 86% achieved a pass at grade 4+. Over a third of students achieved grades 7-9, and 33 students achieved the top grade of a 9.
