What skills and experience we're looking for

John Perry Primary School is a ‘Good’ three-form entry school with an inclusive and aspirational ethos. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum which supports strong pupil outcomes and fosters a love of learning. The school is fully inclusive and includes an Additional Resource Provision for autistic children across the primary age range.

We are seeking to appoint a dedicated, resilient and highly effective Learning Mentor to join our Inclusion team. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting pupils’ social, emotional and behavioural development, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and engage positively in school life.

Working under the direction of the Assistant Head Teacher for Inclusion, the Learning Mentor will build positive and trusting relationships with pupils who require additional emotional or behavioural support. You will deliver targeted interventions on a one-to-one and small-group basis, support pupils during unstructured times, and promote positive behaviour and social interaction across the school. You will work closely with class teachers, the SENCo, senior leaders, families and external agencies to implement and review individual behaviour support plans and contribute to a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment.

The successful applicant will have experience working with children in a school, mentoring or similar setting, particularly supporting pupils with challenging behaviour. You will be calm, patient and emotionally resilient, with a strong understanding of behaviour management strategies and safeguarding procedures. Excellent communication skills, flexibility and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential. GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above are required.
