What skills and experience we're looking for

The ideal candidate will have the ability to build an excellent rapport through patience and through engaging and skilled communication, to maximise learning potential. Fluent English and excellent communications skills are required.

Excellent teamwork is required, and a cooperative approach to the direction of the class teacher.

The candidate will be required to undergo a full enhanced DBS check and must be eligible to work in the UK.

The successful candidate will work on Thursdays and Fridays (full school day), supporting named SEN children 1:2. According to the attributes of the person, we will decide which children they will work with. This could be infants or juniors.

Birch Copse Primary School is a very successful, vibrant school of which we are very proud. We achieved an Ofsted rating of ‘outstanding’ in all five areas, in July 2024. The school is friendly, well supported by governors and parents, and is located in a pleasant residential area on the outskirts of Reading. There are 420 pupils on roll, organised into 6 Infant and 8 Junior classes. There are 2 classes for each Year Group, and each year group pair of teachers plan together.

The school is committed to ensuring that all pupils achieve the highest standards of attainment according to their ability in all subjects of the National Curriculum. The highest standards of behaviour and concentration in the classroom are expected. We always receive positive feedback from visitors to the school.
