What the school offers its staff

Loxley Primary School are seeking to appoint two enthusiastic, caring and reliable lunchtime play leaders and supervisors to join it’s friendly and co-operative staff team. Applicants must have excellent behaviour management skills, a professional approach and be able to form positive and appropriate relationships with pupils. Applicants should have good communication skills and be able to liaise with other staff in a busy school environment. They must also be able to be patient, fair and inclusive in their work with pupils. Applicants should demonstrate an ability to be organised and pro-active in their approach and seek to forge good working relationships with the rest of the staff here at Loxley including the school’s leadership team. In addition, they should demonstrate a willingness to follow school policies and procedures.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise children during lunchtimes, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Encourage and engage children in enjoyable, age-appropriate, inclusive play activities.
  • Work in liaison with the school’s sports coach to encourage involvement in physical activity and healthy lifestyles.
  • Lead children who have play responsibilities to support other children in a caring, orderly and supportive manner
  • Encourage healthy eating and independence when working in the school’s dining hall
  • Help ensure children are ready for lunch and lessons promptly as timetabled.
  • Promote positive behaviour social interactions among children, helping them develop communication, cooperation, and conflict resolution skills following the school’s behaviour policy
  • To assist in dealing with problems from unruly behaviour following the school’s behaviour policy and report such matters to the Headteacher, Deputy Head and Senior Management Team.
  • Support children in understanding and following school rules and routines.
  • Assist with any personal care needs or feeding assistance, as required including changing clothes, cleaning and care for personal cleanliness of the children as appropriate.
  • Maintain a calm, structured environment, supporting children with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) with patience and understanding following any specific pupil support plans where appropriate.
  • Support children with SEND and/or children with anxiety or mental health needs in groups or on a one to one basis where required.
  • Ensure a high standard of safety, intervening when necessary to prevent accidents or conflicts.
  • Report any incidents, accidents, or concerns to the designated member of staff promptly.
  • Follow and advocate the school’s safeguarding practices and procedures.
  • Co-operate with other staff in school to help ensure the school security regulations are upheld including adults entering and leaving the premises.
  • Supervise children in transition from outside / inside during inclement weather.

  • Work alongside school staff prior to lunchtime within the classrooms, as necessary, to establish purposeful working relationships with individuals or small groups of children.
  • Undertake any training or career and professional development opportunities as appropriate to the role and responsibilities
  • Ensure that basic first aid is administered as appropriate and records are kept in accordance with school procedure
  • Any other duties and responsibilities appropriate to the grade and role at the direction of the headteacher or deputy headteacher
