Lunchtime Supervisor job summary

Birch Hill Primary School is seeking a confident, reliable, and proactive Lunchtime Supervisor to join our dedicated team. This is a key role in ensuring that our pupils enjoy a safe, structured, and enjoyable lunchtime experience each day. As the Lunchtime Supervisor, you will be responsible for coordinating a team of lunchtime staff, promoting positive behaviour, and encouraging active and inclusive play. You will play a vital part in fostering a positive school environment where children feel happy, respected, and well cared for. The successful candidate will be:

  • confident in managing a team of lunchtime supervisors, able to delegate tasks effectively, and lead by example with a calm and positive attitude
  • child-centred and caring, genuinely enjoying working with children and is committed to ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and enjoyment during lunchtime activities
  • organised and proactive, capable of planning and overseeing lunchtime routines, managing rotas, and responding quickly to any issues that arise
  • able to communicate clearly and kindly with children, staff, and parents, and to handle minor conflicts or behavioural issues with fairness and consistency
  • positive and energetic, bringing enthusiasm to the playground, encourages inclusive play, and helps create a happy, respectful lunchtime environment
  • punctual, trustworthy, and committed to upholding the school’s values and safeguarding responsibilities

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is organised and reliable
  • Enjoys working with children
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to effectively manage a team and make decisions quickly
  • Can show initiative and work independently as required
  • The ability to develop positive and caring relationships with children
  • Comfortable working with children of different ages and with children who may have additional complex needs

About the school: We are a two-form entry community school serving the Birch Hill and Hanworth districts of Bracknell Forest. In addition to the main school, we offer a nursery and a Specialist Resource Provision (SRP) catering for children with ASD and MLD. We can accommodate 420 children, plus 26 spaces in our nursery, which offers flexible 30 hours a week. The school is organised into two Key Stages - EYFS/ KS1 and KS2.

We set high standards of work and achieve this through providing a curriculum that also develops children's belief that they can achieve their highest aspiration, while working closely with parents and the whole community.
