What skills and experience we're looking for
Permanent Lunchtime Supervisory Assistants
9.17 hours per week, Monday to Friday (11.30am to 13.20pm) x 38 weeks a year.
We are seeking a caring, reliable, and professional Lunchtime Supervisor to join our team, supporting students aged 11 to 19 years during the lunch period. This role is key to ensuring a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable lunchtime experience for all students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise students in the dining hall, before, during and after the midday meal.
- Support students with a range of needs, including those with additional or specialist requirements.
- Promote positive behaviour and social interaction.
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students during lunchtime.
- Read and understand feeding plans and specialist diets, ensuring students receive appropriate meals.
- Assist with setting up and clearing the lunch area.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Excellent oral and written English language skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with students and staff.
- Experience working with young people aged 11–19 is desirable.
- Understanding of safeguarding and child welfare.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.

Our School:
Talbot Specialist School is a recently inspected good school for students aged 11-19 with Cognition and Learning Difficulties – including emotional needs, behavioural needs, profound and complex learning difficulties and autism. We are based in the South of Sheffield, serving approximately 240 young people and their families from across the city. Situated on the same site as Newfield School, we offer high quality facilities which enable our students to be as independent and prepared as possible to have purposeful and fulfilled adult lives. We actively seek opportunities to promote inclusion and work closely with Newfield and other Sheffield Special Schools.
We have a new leadership team in place and are developing our provision to include learning at different sites across the city. This is an exciting time to join the school and to be part of our amazing journey!
