What skills and experience we're looking for
About the role
We are looking for a colleague who can teach Spanish and/or French up to GCSE level; A level teaching is also available. The ability to offer both French and Spanish teaching to some extent in KS3 would be an advantage. The department currently offers courses in French and Spanish at GCSE and A Level in our very successful Joint Sixth form. As a former language college, the school has retained its commitment to languages and, as a reflection of this, we have now chosen to make languages compulsory at GCSE. From next year, we will also offer Latin and Ancient History as part of the department, which is part of our exciting plan to grow and embed the study of languages and cultures across the school.
What the school offers its staff
About our School
Our academy is high performing and progress in languages is consistently above the National Average in all of the key performance measures. Over the last three years, performance in languages has risen strongly and continues to grow from strength to strength. Since 2019, around a fifth of all our GCSE language students have achieved a Grade 7 or above. In the Sixth Form, the average individual ALPS grade has been consistently high, with ‘outstanding’ grades in many years for languages, including in 2019.
This is a great time to join our school as we consolidate links with the 16 other schools including primary, middle and upper schools which form part of our Multi-Academy Trust (Initio Learning Trust). We work closely with colleagues across Initio, sharing ideas about assessment, literacy, numeracy and other areas of pedagogy.
We are an outwardly facing school ina beautiful part of the country on the Jurassic Coast, and have strong links with our local community as a Rights RespectingGoldSchool.
Commitment to safeguarding
This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment.
