What skills and experience we're looking for

Little Ducklings Childcare are looking for a Level 3 Nursery Assistant, to work in its Nursery and to assist in the day-to-day operation of the Nursery and comply with relevant legislation, the day care standards and the Nursery’s policies and procedures. To be responsible for the wellbeing of children, whose care has been entrusted to the Nursery.

Little Ducklings Childcare is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All applicants must be willing to undergo safeguarding screening appropriate to the post, including checks with Disclosure & Barring Service and at least 2 references. Please be advised that references may be requested prior to interview for roles within our Nursery.

The position is full time (37 hours per week) - Between the hours of 7:30am – 3:30pm each day – Term Time only.

The role will be to assist the Nursery Managers and Room Leaders in the day-to-day organisation of the nursery and:

  • To ensure that the nursery is clean and tidy throughout the periods of operation and that all equipment is maintained to a high standard. To report any Health & Safety issues.
  • To work with the Room Leader to plan and deliver a suitable programme of activities to cater for children’s educational, social, emotional, recreational and welfare needs, ensuring that the child’s welfare as an individual and as a member of a group is paramount at all times.
  • To assist with the preparation of feeds for young children, to supervise at meal times and to assist with toilet needs.
  • To attend regular staff and room meetings and positively contribute to the future development of the nursery.
  • To report to the Nursery Managers or Room Leader if you suspect a child is suffering from abuse maintaining confidentiality in the Nursery and at all times.
  • To report immediately any incidents of theft, fire, accident or misbehaviour as necessary.
  • To fully involve parents/carers on a daily basis and more formally through parents open days/evenings regarding their children’s development.
  • To have an awareness of the Foundation Stage Curriculum and Birth to Three Matters Framework
  • To contribute to records on individual children and work as part of a team to evaluate their progress.
  • To make up allocated children’s’ personal portfolios as per the key Person system.

What the school offers its staff

The ideal candidate would preferably have the following -

  • Experience within early years with children aged 0-5 years.
  • Minimum of NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in childcare and education. Experienced Level 2 would be considered.
  • To be able to operate as part of a team.
  • To have an understanding of all relevant early years policies.
    • To have experience of working in partnership with parents
    • To be able to assist in the planning and implementation of the early year’s curriculum related to the individual needs of children and their families.
    • To assist with assessment, recording and evaluating in relation to early years curriculum.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills with all ages.
