PASTORAL ASSISTANT job summary

 The Governing Body of this expanding school are looking to appoint  well qualified, highly motivated, enthusiastic and innovative Pastoral Assistant who will have a significant impact on learning and who are committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for pupils with social, emotional and mental health difficulties. 
 
The purpose of the Pastoral Assistant is to work as a member of the school’s pastoral team, working as a link between the senior pastoral managers and teaching staff within the school. You will interrogate the schools behaviour and attendance data daily to inform your daily work. 
 
 
You will: 
 
v  Be able to support teaching and learning across KS2, 3 and be a committed Pastoral Assistant working  and work in line with the schools new behaviour regulation system 
v  Be able to modify challenging behaviour in a firm but supportive manner 
v  Be child centred 
v  Be flexible with a good sense of humour 
 
 
You will be assigned a case load of pupils to work with at a multi-agency level. 
 
You will be on call on the radio to provide support so that children get the ‘right help, at the right time’. You will become a Team Teach tutor to train staff in de-escalation and restrictive physical intervention to support the schools’ development in effective behaviour management and support other schools as part of our inclusion funding obligations. 
 
The focus of your role will be to support the needs of students who have barriers to their learning and need targeted support to raise their aspirations and develop appropriate ‘behaviours for learning’. Barriers to learning could include attendance, home issues, and emotional, social and behavioural difficulties. 
 
The role will focus on working with individual students in order to provide personalised interventions to secure improvements in their behaviour, attendance and outcomes. 
 
The wider role will include running the schools work related learning and enterprise program, in that you will be responsible for the work experience, pupils accessing college and providing support to them in their application and interview stages. You will also maintain regular contact with the year 11 leavers. 
The person appointed will be required to be flexible around the needs of the school. 
 
A full, clean driving license is essential.
