Play Worker - 10 hours per week job summary

Birley Primary Academy, part of L.E.A.D. Academy Trust, is seeking a caring and reliable Playworker/Midday Supervisor to join our friendly team. This role is vital in supporting our pupils during the lunchtime period, ensuring a safe, happy, and inclusive environment both in the dining hall and on the playground.


Key responsibilities:

  • Supervising children in the dining hall, playground, and around the school site during lunchtime
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and play, helping pupils to develop social skills
  • Promoting the school’s values and safeguarding the welfare of all pupils
  • Assisting with minor first aid (training provided)
  • Ensuring the lunchtime period runs smoothly and safely


We are looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys working with children and is approachable, patient, and kind
  • Has good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
  • Is reliable, punctual, and committed to supporting the school community
  • Will promote inclusion and respect across all groups of pupils

Birley Primary Academy joined L.E.A.D Academy Trust in February 2017 together with four other schools in the Birley family. This is an exciting time to join our Academy and contribute to a successful learning environment for our children.

We are a large primary school in south east Sheffield, admitting children from 3 to 11 years with Foundation Stage 1 (nursery) provision for 104 children. Our admissions number is 90 children across all other year groups. The school was last inspected by Ofsted in 2019 and was judged to be good.
