Hours: 37.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year
Contract Type: Permanent

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday 08:00am - 16:30pm with a 30 mintue unpaid lunch break.

About the Role

Parkland Primary School South Wigston are seeking to recruit a highly organised, empathetic and enthusiastic Pre-School Manager to work within our Pre-School setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understand, effectively apply and implement within the provision the application of Trust policies and procedures related to the post especially those that relate to safeguarding and child protection.
  • Ensure compliance under the Children’s Act.
  • Liaison with parents / carers to ensure that children are welcomed and supported in a culturally appropriate way.

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications:

  • EYP, NNEB or NVQ level 3 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development, or relevant degree.
  • Level 2 qualifications in maths/numeracy and English/literacy

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience of working with under-fives in a formal setting, working within the Nursery Education and meeting the requirements relating to Ofsted.
  • Experience of leading activities with individuals, groups and whole classes to support children’s development
  • Experience of managing a budget and resources

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of and the ability to apply child protection and health and safety procedures
  • Knowledge and understanding of children’s development 0-5years.
  • Knowledge of current legislation affecting care and education of under fives
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Skills to relate well to staff, parents, governors and pupils and to be assertive when necessary.
  • Empathy with children and young people

Parkland Primary school is a large primary school, with 506 children aged 4 to 11. It is also a pretty happy place with children who on the whole are willing to learn, friendly and easy-going. Our intake is mixed in socio-economic terms with nearly a quarter of the children on free meals. Parents are supportive regular volunteer helpers in school.
Staff range from very experienced to NQTs, with a generous allocation of support staff including HLTAs, a nursery nurse, teaching assistants and an ICT technician.

Premises are modern with open-plan areas for younger children and closed rooms for older ones. We have good resources and excellent facilities including an ICT suite, field, studio, resource room, and separate Year 6 building. We share a campus with South Wigston High School. A state-of-the-art sports centre has been built at the High School with community access and timetabled slots for our school's use.
