A highly efficient & proactive Premises assistant is required by Ralph Allen School which is part of the Palladian Academy Trust. We are looking for an individual to work up to 15 hours a week. Saturdays and evening options available dependant on the right candidate. About the role

To assist the Premises Manager in undertaking a range of duties regarding the building, site and environment and their users, ensuring their safety and security.

To assist with maintaining the security of the premises, to include the opening up and locking of premises. To ensure the security of the premises outside normal working hours, setting security alarm systems, carrying out security checks.

To assist with a range of minor maintenance work as agreed with the Premises Manager and Operations Manager regarding the day-to-day maintenance of the premises and its furnishings e.g. remedial painting and decorating, repairs to fixings and small-scale improvement.

To assist with arrangement for major maintenance work to be carried out, escorting contractors and others to site, assisting with the monitoring of safety of their working practices.

To assist with the operation of the premises heating system under the direction of the premises manager.

To undertake general porterage duties to include the setting out and putting away of furniture as necessary and receiving deliveries of goods and equipment. At certain points of the day the postholder will be expected to undertake bending, lifting and stretching in the course of their duties.

To oversee evening letting of the school premises and assist the hirers as required.

We require an individual who takes pride in the appearance and maintenance of our school and grounds, keeping them in good condition for our students and staff.

Previous experience of a similar role would be desirable, however a positive attitude and a can-do approach to basic DIY is essential, we well as an ability and willingness to take on a variety of practical tasks.

You will be line managed by the Premises Manager overseen by the Trust Estates Lead. Working in a fast-paced changing environment, you should be experienced at multi-tasking as no two days are the same as a school caretaker. The ability to manage priorities in support of unplanned maintenance is essential. Your dedicated site will be Ralph Allen, but you may be asked to support across the local trust sites in support of Trust wide projects, compliance activities, covering sickness & holiday absence.

Essential and Desirable Skills.

A basic level of literacy and numeracy.

Good timekeeping.

Ability to communicate clearly and work as part of a team.

Ability to work unsupervised.

Good observational skills to note tasks that need carrying out; the ability to be proactive and take the initiative with tasks required.

Ability to undertake general maintenance work to the required standard.

A positive work ethic and ability to problem solve and work under pressure to tight deadlines.

Enthusiasm for education and working in a school with students.

Previous relevant school maintenance/caretaking experience.

Previous experience of general building plumbing and or DIY experience.

Knowledge of H&S and building compliance.

Ability to use IT (email and compliance software) in a work environment (full training will be given).

Ability to communicate clearly and calmly in the event of an emergency.

Work at times with discretion and confidentiality, adhering to GDPR and respecting privacy.

Full and clean driving to drive school vehicles if needed.
