What skills and experience we're looking for

Oak Lodge School is seeking an inspiring and forward‑thinking Preparation for Adulthood Lead Teacher to champion our whole‑school strategy across employment, independent living, community participation and health. In this key middle‑leadership role, you will shape an ambitious, person‑centred curriculum that prepares students aged 11–19 with learning disabilities, autism and complex needs for meaningful, independent and fulfilling adult lives. You will lead our work experience programme, develop strong employer partnerships, coordinate transition planning for post‑16 and post‑19 pathways, and work closely with external agencies including colleges, social care, and supported employment services.

What the school offers its staff

With one dedicated leadership day each week, you will coach colleagues in embedding preparation‑for‑adulthood outcomes across the curriculum, develop life‑skills content such as travel training, budgeting and home management, and contribute to the tracking of post‑19 destinations. You will work alongside a highly supportive senior leadership team and be supported by a dedicated HLTA to enable you to focus on strategic development and high‑quality teaching.

At Oak Lodge, you will join a warm, therapeutic, person‑centred environment with small class sizes, strong multidisciplinary collaboration and excellent SEND‑specific professional development opportunities across Barnet Special Education Trust. This is the perfect role for an experienced SEND practitioner ready to take the next step into middle leadership and make a tangible difference to young people’s futures.
