Sonning Common Primary School is a values-led community, set in a beautiful rural site in South Oxfordshire. We focus on our five values - Kindness, Politeness, Respect, Truth, and Doing your best – in everything we do. We hope that this results in happy, productive children. The school is set in vast rural grounds, with two large playing fields, two playgrounds, a full-size all-weather sports facility, and two forest camps. We also have an on-site swimming pool.
Children at Sonning Common are taught by a diverse and committed teaching body, many of whom have experience in other careers and who can bring a varied range of views and ideas to inspire their classes. Our results are consistently good, but we also aim to develop children more widely into responsible citizens, whose personal values reflect those of the school. We always teach the full primary curriculum, and lessons and assemblies are enhanced by visits and visitors, our on-site public library, our garden and allotment, our sports and drama facilities and our forest camps. We believe that all children leave us with a rounded and informed view of the world. The achievements of our pupils in sport, music and drama are testament to this, as are the range of secondary schools they are able to move on to.
At Sonning Common we have a reputation for supporting all children, from extending the learning for those who are highly able to providing expert support for those with special educational needs, with both of these achieved through dedicated staff and tailored interventions. Our pastoral support is superb, driven by a shared ethos that no child can learn effectively if they are anxious or unhappy. Our wrap-around care (7.30am – 6.00pm) is always run by our own staff, and offers a range of activities and home-cooked healthy food.
