Callerton Academy is seeking to appoint a skilled, nurturing and reflective primary-trained teacher to lead a secondary nurture group for students who require a highly supportive, therapeutic and relational approach to learning.
This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to work with a small group of Key Stage 3 students, helping them to successfully re‑engage with learning, build emotional literacy, develop routines, and develop the foundational knowledge they need to thrive as they transition into mainstream secondary education.
The successful candidate will:
- Plan and deliver a primary-style curriculum tailored to the developmental, academic and emotional needs of secondary-aged students
- Teach literacy and numeracy, including the use of phonics and structured numeracy techniques, to strengthen students’ foundational knowledge and confidence
- Support students to close gaps in early reading, writing and mathematical understanding that act as barriers to wider learning
- Create a safe, calm and consistent learning environment grounded in nurture principles
- Work closely with pastoral leaders, SEND staff, families and external professionals to support individual student needs
- Support students’ carefully planned reintegration into mainstream lessons
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for someone who:
- Holds QTS and is primary-trained
- Has strong experience in delivering phonics-based literacy and practical, structured numeracy approaches
- Understands the importance of rebuilding foundational knowledge for older students who have experienced disrupted learning
- Has a sound understanding of attachment-aware and trauma-informed practice
- Is passionate about inclusion and believes in building success through relationships
- Is flexible, reflective and resilient, with high expectations and a warm, consistent approach
Experience of working with students with SEND, SEMH needs, or who are at risk of disengagement would be particularly advantageous.
