What skills and experience we're looking for

Due to the retirement of Monkshouse Primary Academy’s Principal at the end of the 2024/2025 academic year, University of Lincolnshire Academy Trust is seeking an outstanding replacement.

The Academy’s Principal should be an inspirational leader who is visible and approachable, building trust in the community, while maintaining a strong commitment to educational excellence. The ideal candidate will combine strong, strategic thinking with a nurturing approach, fostering an ethos that drives both academic achievement and personal growth. They will be an excellent role model, with the ability to build and galvanise teams, empowering others to be the best that they can. The Academy has considerable successes and its new leader should build upon this and shape future of the pupils in our care.

Monkshouse Primary Academy joined the University of Lincoln Academy Trust in January 2024. The Trust has seven academies, four primary, two secondary and one special academy; who work together, but retain their individual character, vision and values. The Principal will be a member of Trust’s, Executive Management Board and will be expected to participate in work with colleagues across the Trust.

What the school offers its staff

Monkshouse is vibrant and welcoming, two-form entry primary academy, in a well-resourced building with a Nursery, situated in the town of Spalding, south Lincolnshire. The Nursery is very popular within the community, taking children aged three years and above and is staffed with a qualified teacher. Flexible and cost-effective before and after school care (from 07:30 and until 18:00) is also available, this run by members of the Academy staff. Following an ungraded Ofsted inspection in November 2023 the previous rating of ‘Good’ was confirmed.

Monkshouse Primary Academy serves a diverse community with children from a range of backgrounds and experiences coming together to share a love of learning. We aim to provide a creative and inclusive education in a positive and welcoming environment where everyone is valued and encouraged to succeed.

The Academy has a healthy budget and is well-staffed with support in all classrooms. We are fortunate in our grounds as they enable us to provide a range of opportunities for our children and include a forest area, astro-turf, a designated gardening area, outdoor gym, large outdoor areas for Early Years and KS1 and a reflective area.

We have the highest possible aspirations for our children, they thrive thanks to the well designed curriculum, the quality of teaching and rigorous monitoring. We strive to create a learning community, rich in opportunity, where everyone is valued, empowered and challenged to achieve their potential and excel in their achievements. We make this possible by providing an enriched, inclusive, curriculum full of exciting learning opportunities, both inside and outside of the classroom.

We are determined that children leave the Academy as confident, responsible, life-long learners who are able to make a positive contribution to society. As well as achieving academically we believe that it is important for them to build social and emotional links that lead to resilience and the ability to embrace challenge and change.

There are high expectations of behaviour and attendance (above national averages). The children display excellent learning behaviours – regularly commented on by visitors and during off-site trips. They are engaged in their learning and are enthusiastic about it. Pupils consistently strive to uphold the school values of, Respect, Teamwork, Confidence, Caring, Responsibility and Perseverance.

The University of Lincoln Academy Trust has a combined budget of over £27m, with 530 staff and its ethos is based on the moral imperative to improve the life chances of all our young people. The Trust delegates the full budget to each academy and make a very small top slice to cover central costs of approximately 2.5%. The Trust also allows its academies to maintain their own reserves.
