What skills and experience we're looking for
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf in a Hearing Impaired Resource Provision within our thriving mainstream school to improve outcomes for our Deaf Children. This will be achieved by ensuring that children's needs are met within an inclusive environment and the key principles for inclusion are embraced. The role of the Qualified Teacher of the Deaf within Lower Darwen Primary School is to facilitate access and inclusion to ensure our children with Hearing Impairment reach their full potential.
The Qualified Teacher of the Deaf will:
- teach in a Hearing Impaired resource base consisting of pupils from Early Years to Key Stage 2
- demonstrate their ability to teach across the provision.
- promote the successful inclusion and learning opportunities of deaf children within our setting
- support mainstream staff to fully understand and meet the needs of deaf learners.
- Demonstrate and promote high expectations
- promote principles of good practice approaches for Hearing Impairment which are beneficial for all children
- raise awareness of duties and expectations in line with the Equality Act (2010)

be able to use language assessments and utilise these effectively to support Communication, Language and Literacy skills.

work closely with a Speech and Language team and to be able to support and implement individual programmes.

communicate effectively with parents

collaborate effectively with colleagues from Sensory Service teams across a number of Local Authorities.
- Candidates should have:
- Qualified Teacher Status
- Mandatory qualification in Deaf Education
- an excellent teaching record.

Lower Darwen Primary School provides education for children aged 4-11 and currently has 383 registered pupils. The school is a modern design and is situated in the village of Lower Darwen. The school has good road links and is close to J4 of the M65 and the main road into Blackburn.
The school has 10 mainstream classes and also has a resourced facility that caters for children from the Blackburn with Darwen area who have a hearing impairment.
The school building is set in spacious grounds and has two playgrounds, a newly installed Multi-games area and an enclosed garden. Lower Darwen Primary School also has a large playing field. The school provides its own lunch service, as well as providing out of school hours care through its Happy Days after school club and Rise and Shine breakfast club.
The school is also proud of its links with the local community. It has links with the church, universities and colleges.
