RSP Teacher job summary

RSP Lead Teacher - Waltham Gateway Academy

Waltham Gateway Academy opened in September 2025 and now has 72 pupils and will eventually provide for up to 210 mainstream pupils, from Reception to Year 6.

The Academy also includes an RSP, which currently has 6 children and will cater for up to 12 children from across North East Lincolnshire who have identified Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

We are looking for someone to join our exciting team of leaders, teachers and support staff, ensuring our new children receive a fantastic all-round education. The role is for an RSP Lead Teacher to replace our existing RSP Lead Teacher who is transferring to another role within our academy.

The RSP Lead Teacher will work closely with a team of up to four support staff and will play a key role, alongside the SENDCO, in collaborating with staff across the academies and colleagues in the Trust, local authority and external agencies to ensure a broad, balanced and specialist curriculum is provided for our children accessing the RSP.

We are looking for experienced classroom teachers who demonstrate a strong desire to ensure children, who have often had negative experiences of education, are able to develop their skills and confidence, using adaptive, personalised teaching strategies. It is crucial that candidates have experience of working with children with significant SEMH needs and some experience of working in a specialist setting would be advantageous. The role requires resilience, determination and a strong commitment - the role offers a highly challenging but extremely rewarding opportunity to make a real difference.

It is vital that the RSP teacher creates a nurturing and empathic approach to teaching, prioritising child-centred relational approaches. It is desirable that applicants will have experience of working with children with trauma. However, training will be provided as we are working closely with Trauma-Informed Schools UK.

Our ethos is one of an uncompromising drive to achieve the highest standards of outcomes and behaviour in a safe environment, through a relational approach, which encourages every student to experience an exciting and creative climate for learning. We place a strong emphasis upon pastoral care and successful candidates will share the determination to offer the very best to our students so that they can thrive personally and academically.

The role will start In January 2027 or before if the successful candidate is available at an earlier date.
