What skills and experience we're looking for

King Edward VI School, Lichfield, is looking to recruit into the post of School Business Manager to join our Senior Leadership Team. King Edward VI School is a large, inclusive secondary school with a vibrant Sixth Form, serving a diverse community in the historic cathedral city of Lichfield. Our student body includes a wide range of needs, with around 10.9% eligible for Free School Meals, 8.3% receiving SEN support, and 5.3% from English as an Additional Language backgrounds. As our School Business Manager, you will be a key member of our Senior Leadership Team; your role will be broad and rewarding, encompassing:

  • Leading financial planning, budgeting, and reporting to ensure robust financial health and transparency
  • Managing contracts, investigating bids and income generation opportunities to support our school’s growth and development
  • Overseeing HR, Site Management, Catering, and IT functions, ensuring high standards and efficient operations
  • Supporting the Senior Leadership Team with strategic advice that helps drive school improvement and sustainability
  • Participation in school events
  • Ensuring overall operational excellence

You will be expected to shape systems and processes that directly impact the quality of education and student experience, working closely with Governors, staff, and the wider community.

We are looking for a confident and credible leader who:

  • Brings proven experience in management, ideally within a school business or similar environment
  • Combines strong financial acumen with excellent organisational and people management skills
  • Has a collaborative and inclusive approach, able to build effective relationships across all levels of the school community
  • Demonstrates resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous professional growth
  • Is passionate about supporting a school that values aspiration, belonging, and collaboration, and who will help us realise our vision for excellence and inclusion
  • Able to deliver key day to day priorities alongside managing projects, on time and in budget
