What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking for an outstanding and committed individual who will join our highly skilled team as our School Business Manager. St. Matthew’s C. of E. Primary School is committed to creating a diverse workforce. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the financial strategy of the business functions of our school including IT, personnel and pay administration, premises/health and safety ensuring compliance. S/he will be required to ensure expenditure of the school budget is managed with due regard to cost effectiveness and value for money.

They will need to have excellent computer skills, particularly Excel, and an understanding of accounting, although training on the school's SIMS/ACCESS systems will be given.

This is a 'hands on' post with understanding required of the needs of young children, their families and those who work with them. The successful candidate should expect to be involved in the life of our school.

Qualifications

  • GCSE Maths and English or equivalent
  • Degree or other relevant qualification – ideally in accountancy, business management or a related discipline
  • A school business management qualification
  • Commitment to working in a Christian School.

Experience

  • Working as part of a team influencing operational and financial decision making
  • Successful leadership and management experience in a school, or in a relevant field outside education
  • Involvement in school self-evaluation and improvement planning
  • Line management experience
  • Contributing to staff training and development
  • Experience or understanding of Church of England school finance procedures is highly desirable
  • Working with children or young people

Skills and Knowledge

  • Good knowledge of day-to-day financial operations
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate a vision and inspire others
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with staff and other stakeholders
  • Understanding of data protection and confidentiality
  • Previous use of MIS, payment management systems and payroll systems used in schools
