Working pattern

Part time: Attend full governing board meetings twice a term on a Wednesday from 6-8pm in school, a committee meeting once or twice a term on a Wednesday from 6-8pm in school or on a Monday from 9.30-11 a.m in school. In addition you may be asked to sit on occasional panels, working groups and will attend termly governor visits in school.

Are you passionate about education and would like to become one of our governors?

We have a vacancy for:

  • 2 co-opted governors

Co-opted governors are appointed by us, the governing board. We appoint governors who have the right skills to contribute to the effective governance and success of the school.

About you:

We are not looking for any specific skills at this time, just people who:

  • care about children and education
  • enjoy making a difference
  • like a challenge

About us

We work in partnership with the headteacher who we appoint. Together we promote continuous improvement in the school’s performance.

Our governing board currently has 13 governors:

  • the headteacher
  • 3 elected parent governors
  • 1 local authority governor
  • 1 staff governor
  • 3 foundation governors
  • 4 co-opted governors

We also employ a professional clerk.

All our governors have their own careers and responsibilities but they dedicate time to the school when they are able.

We expect you to:

  • support school improvement and monitor progress over time
  • make sure we are accountable
  • engage with stakeholders, including parents, governors and the wider community
  • champion inclusion and equity

What the school offers its staff

Governors will have access to the Bracknell Forest Governor training package where they can attend online and in-person training courses. They will receive Induction and Safeguarding training when they start and then a number of termly courses to choose from. They will also have membership of the National Governance Association who provide online training, webinars and guidance.

The candidate will be required to undergo a full enhanced DBS check and must be eligible to work in the UK.
