School Nurse - Temporary Contract job summary

School Nurse £17 per hour, 35 hours per week

Term Time Only

Monday - Friday 08.00 - 15.00

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate School Nurse to cover sickness potentially up until December or until the return of the incumbent.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified nurse who enjoys working with young people and is passionate about supporting their health, wellbeing and welfare within a busy school environment.

The Role

As the School Nurse, you will be responsible for providing a high standard of medical care and support to our students throughout the school day. You will work closely with students, parents/carers, teaching staff and the wider pastoral team to ensure students' health needs are appropriately managed.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Providing first aid and responding to illness and injuries during the school day.

• Managing students with ongoing medical conditions and individual healthcare plans.

• Administering medication in accordance with school policies and appropriate procedures.

• Maintaining accurate and confidential medical records.

• Liaising with parents/carers and healthcare professionals where appropriate.

• Supporting students with their physical and emotional wellbeing.

• Advising staff on students' medical needs and appropriate support.

• Promoting good health and wellbeing across the school.

• Responding calmly and professionally to medical emergencies.

• Maintaining a safe, organised and confidential medical environment.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

• A Registered Nurse (RGN/RSCN) with current NMC registration.

• Experienced in working with children or young people, ideally within a school or community setting.

• Caring, approachable and able to build positive relationships with students.

• Calm and confident when dealing with emergencies and unexpected situations.

• Highly organised, reliable and able to work independently.

• Able to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sound professional judgement.

• A strong communicator who can work effectively with students, staff, parents and external healthcare professionals.

Previous experience as a school nurse would be advantageous, although nurses with relevant paediatric, community or emergency experience will also be considered.
