Job title: Science Technician

Salary: H5 £24,389 - £26,380 actual salary for 37 hrs per week term + 3 weeks

Hours: 30-37 hours per week, term time plus up to 3 weeks (part-time negotiable)

Responsible to: Head of Science

Contract: Fixed term until April 2026 (option to extend)

We are seeking a Science Technician to help provide and organise technical support for our busy Science Faculty. This is a temporary role to cover for extended absence. There may be the option to extend into a permanent role in the future. Reporting to the Head of Science, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring resources are managed to enable the effective delivery of the practical component of the science curriculum across all year groups. An understanding of the relevant Health and Safety regulations is important, as is the ability to maintain equipment and manage stock. A full induction and training programme is available.

We are looking for a personable and motivated individual who is enthusiastic about science. You will have good organisational, communication and problem solving skills and be able to work effectively in a team.

The Science Faculty has benefited from substantial grant funding and is therefore equipped with some of the most up to date and exciting equipment for the teaching and learning of Science. We are passionate about encouraging girls into STEM subjects. We have also recently benefited from a total rebuild on the same site under the Priority Schools Building Programme. We would be delighted to show you around the school.

Visitors tell us that our school is a friendly, lively and stimulating community where we emphasise the importance of the individual’s contribution and take pleasure in sharing and celebrating achievement. They commend the good behaviour of the pupils and their thirst for knowledge. Bishop’s is a diverse community that offers mutual support and encouragement and expects everyone within it to respect others’ heritage, cultures, religion and beliefs. We hope that the values, self-discipline and sense of personal worth that pupils gain here will be a support throughout their lives as British and Global Citizens. We welcome applications from candidates from racially minoritised backgrounds and from other groups that are underrepresented in the UK education system.

Bishop’s Hatfield Girls’ School is heavily oversubscribed and has around 950 pupils on roll including the Sixth Form. We are fully committed to our values of teamwork, respect, honesty, trust, kindness and ambition. The school completed its most recent Ofsted inspection in December 2022 and was judged to continue to be Outstanding. However, we are not driven by Ofsted and our priorities lie in supporting our pupils to develop their knowledge, skills and character through the ‘Bishop’s 360’ model. The school has benefited from a total rebuild on the same site and enjoys excellent state of the art facilities. BHGS holds a Young Carers in Schools award, the Music Mark and is a Fairtrade School. Hatfield is within easy reach of London and other areas and the London Fringe Allowance is payable.

The school's Admissions’ Code gives priority places to children of staff. We give high priority to staff development and staff are able to apply for our Professional Development Award which provides bursary payments to help finance CPD that goes beyond the school’s usual training programme.

We take safeguarding of our students extremely seriously and an enhanced disclosure will be sought through the Disclosure and Barring Service as part of the school’s pre-employment checks.

If you would like to visit us, prior to making an application, and see for yourself how our pupils learn in a vibrant, supportive environment please contact Sally Fullerton at sfullerton@bishophatfield.herts.sch.uk.

The salary range quoted assumes the job holder is working full time i.e. 37 hours per week, term time plus 3 weeks.

Please see the job description for more detail.

Closing date for applications: 5th September 2025
