Science Technician job summary

Bishop Ullathorne Catholic School is part of the Holy Cross Catholic Multi Academy Company.

At Bishop Ullathorne we are committed to a process of ongoing improvement and discovery. We are determined to provide the very best Catholic education for all of our young people. Our vision of education is of educating the whole person to the fullness of life.

Our set of values, the “Ullathorne Way” through which we all strive to live and grow, is immersed into the fabric of our school. Indeed, Ofsted, who rated our school “Good” in March 2019 said “Your curriculum is underpinned by your Catholic values and encourage all pupils to engage in activities within the school and beyond".

Our school Governors wish to appoint an enthusiastic and dedicated Science Technician to provide effective and efficient support for the learning and teaching of science.

The successful candidate will

  • have an aptitude for science
  • be conscientious, hardworking and reliable
  • be able to work on their own initiative.

It would be preferable if the successful candidate were educated to A level or the equivalent in sciences and if they were to have industrial or school laboratory experience, enabling them to work in accordance with health and safety requirements.

The normal working hours for the position are 8am to 4pm Monday to Thursday and 8am to 3.30pm on a Friday, term time only plus three weeks. However if these hours do not suit and you require a later start time or earlier finish time, we can be flexible in the hours for the right candidate.

Bishop Ullathorne is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and appointments will be subject to rigorous safeguarding checks including enhanced DBS and references. The postholder must share our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Candidates who have been successfully shortlisted will be asked to complete a self-declaration to confirm any (non-protected) criminal disclosures or information that would make them unsuitable to work with children.

The post is exempt from the rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975, 2013 and 2020. This means that when applying for certain jobs and activities certain spent convictions and cautions are ‘protected’, so they do not need to be disclosed to employers, and if they are disclosed, employers cannot take them into account. Further information about filtering offences can be found in the DBS filtering guide.

Following recommendations from Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) an online search will form part of this recruitment process.

Further details are available by contacting Paul Carpenter by telephone on 024 76 414515 or by email: p.carpenter@bishopullathorne.co.uk

Completed applications should be returned via the My New Term jobs portal by 9am on Wednesday 21 August 2024.
