What skills and experience we're looking for
An understanding of chemistry and its place in the national curriculum
Maintenance of associated equipment
Health and safety
Preparation of materials and experiments for chemistry classes to the required standard.
take direction from the Senior Technician or Department Head
Work effectively as part of a diverse team of laboratory technicians and science teachers.
identify and use a large range of science equipment including general and specialist I.C.T. equipment
Advice on the design and operation of experiments to class teachers wishing to demonstrate/illustrate specific points.
Prioritise and meet a range of deadlines set by senior staff.
Liaise/communicate effectively with pupils, users, parents, staff and other visitors in a friendly and professional manner
Use safe working practices within the context of the Health & Safety at Work Act.
Exercise a high sense of security with regard to equipment and buildings.
Follow technical written instructions.

Able to relate to young people and have a desire to support them to achieve the optimum for students

Reliability
Previous experience as a laboratory technician preferred but not essential.
Relevant academic or industrial experience.
Minimum of GCSE/BTEC and “A” level Physical Sciences (or equivalent)
In addition to candidate’s ability to perform the duties of the post, the interview will also explore issues relating to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children including:
Motivation to work with children and young people
Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people
Emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviours
Attitudes to use of authority and maintaining discipline
This post is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. An enhanced Criminal Record Disclosure will be required prior to appointment

Finham Park is a popular and successful 11 -18 comprehensive school situated in the south-west of Coventry. It has an excellent reputation within the local community as well as nationally and internationally with our staff are both dedicated and highly qualified. The school was accredited as a World Class School in 2015, 2018, 2020 and 2021.
Ofsted described the school as a place where there is a strong culture of learning and a proven track record of academic success, with students consistently making above average national levels of progress in their studies in both Key Stages 4 and 5. The behaviour of the students is Outstanding.
Their eagerness for learning allows our teachers to deliver stimulating and innovative lessons that result in rapid progress. There is a clear focus on the development of teaching and learning through engagement in national research programmes with a strong structure of support at all levels.
