Science Technician job summary
Millthorpe School is seeking to recruit a Science Technician to provide a support service to the science department, enabling a safe and well equipped environment for practical work that will support the teaching of science to all pupils. The successful candidate will be working as part of a team of 2, in a department with 8 science teachers and labs, and with 2 well-resourced prep rooms. The role will involve ensuring that classrooms are equipped and prepared for lessons (including the preparation of materials, apparatus or specimens that may be required for demonstrations or practical work), maintaining appropriate levels of materials/resources, and cleaning and maintaining apparatus and equipment where necessary.
The person we are looking for will have experience of working with children and young people in a secondary school science environment and be motivated to work in a school science environment. They will also have an NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in a relevant science based subject and a practical understanding of health and safety legislation, first aid, risk assessments and safe manual handling techniques.
Good interpersonal skills are required, together with an organised and methodical approach, and the ability to establish and maintain effective and supportive working relationships with staff and students.
