Science Technician job summary
MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE:
You will be responsible to the Head of Science as a member of a team providing technician support to the Science Department. You will be responsible for:
a) Preparation, maintenance and storage of apparatus, technical equipment and solutions both for demonstration and practical work in the courses taken in Science.
b) Supporting the teacher in the classroom and helping pupils as required.
c) Maintenance of stock to meet requirements, requisitioning to the approved standards; receipt and storage of new materials, including materials requiring special care.
d) General maintenance of each laboratory or room, including the care and maintenance of services, stores, laboratory workshop equipment, drainage systems, working surfaces etc. Reporting any repairs required to the appropriate person for action.
e) The keeping of stock records, breakage records and other such records as are required by the employing authority.
f) Assist in the ordering of materials as necessary after consultation with the Senior Team and other technicians. .
g) Undertake an annual stock take.
h) The construction of apparatus for general or demonstration use, and the repair of apparatus.
i) Assist in the disposal of waste laboratory materials as directed, in accordance with established guidelines (eg COSHH).
j) Setting up of interactive whiteboards, ICT equipment, audiovisual equipment etc. Preparing resources to be used in lessons.
k) Participate in the maintenance of satisfactory standards of safety and security in relation to the technician services to the Science Department, in accordance with the school policy.
l) Supporting Art and reprographics can also be required throughout the year
m) Duties as required by the Headteacher.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Candidates are asked to indicate on their application the ability to meet the following criteria:
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Be educated to at least A level standard in Science and in particular Physics/Chemistry qualifications.
Have a knowledge of Laboratory practical work required for the teaching of general Science to Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
Be up to date with the current Health and Safety Legislation.
Have a knowledge of ICT.
An ability work independently using their own initiative
A flexible, enthusiastic and proactive approach to their work and the ability to work to deadlines.
