Science Technician job summary

We are looking for a science technician to support our Head of Faculty and teaching team in delivering high quality, practical lessons. The successful candidate will be a proactive and flexible team player with a strong interest in Science, good communication kills and the ability to follow detailed instructions while contributing to the smooth running of the Faculty.

As the Science Technician, you will be expected to co-ordinate the use and maintenance of practical resources and facilities, and provide assistance and advice in meeting the practical needs of the science curriculum.

Your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Support staff with preparation and organisation of resources prior to lessons, during lessons and after lessons
  • To manage the technical, administrative and resource provision across the Science Department.
  • To support the curriculum delivery and development of the Science curriculum through creative planning of practical elements.
  • Ensure all equipment is prepared for lessons in accordance with teacher specifications
  • Organisation, preparation, repair, cleaning, transport and collection of all subject related equipment and materials
  • Assist and support in practical and extra-curricular lessons and clubs as requested
  • Understand the biology, chemistry and physics syllabi and schemes of work in order to prepare for practical lessons.
  • Keeping up to date records and logs of stock and preparation of stock orders.
  • Ensure full implementation of all Health and Safety regulations across the subject areas, including carrying out risk assessments for technician activities.
  • Organise the safe and secure disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Organise the efficient storage and record keeping of chemicals, equipment and machinery.
  • Carry out maintenance, repair and safety checks on equipment and record faults and action taken
  • Keep up to date with Health and Safety regulations and with subject specific developments.
  • Ensure the effective/efficient deployment of resources.
  • Obtaining purchases necessary for lessons and technician tasks.
