Second in Department: Mathematics job summary

The Second in Maths will get to experience wider responsibility within the department, which will be an excellent grounding for future management roles.

They will work alongside the Head of Department on their own areas of responsibility and projects, along with keeping up to date with developments in the Maths curriculum.

They will be able to inspire students, and have commitment to raising participation levels in extra-curricular activities, along with being able to demonstrate the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents and carers, and implementing the academy’s commitment to the safety and welfare of children.

They will also facilitate links with staff in other subject areas and other schools, and be a confident classroom practitioner and model outstanding teaching to all teachers of Maths.

The teachers working in the department are extremely knowledgeable and experienced and work closely together, with the intent is to foster a deep and lasting understanding of mathematics in our students, equipping them with the confidence and skills to apply mathematical concepts throughout their lives. To accomplish this we aim to work with our students to develop resilient, independent learners who approach mathematics with curiosity and confidence.

By creating a supportive and stimulating learning environment, we aim to instill a love for mathematics, encouraging students to see its relevance and power in the world around them. Furthermore, we aim to nurture critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and numerical fluency, ensuring students can navigate everyday challenges and pursue their future aspirations with confidence in their mathematical ability.
