Our Maths department has exceptional expertise, consequently we are able to be flexible in whether we appoint an ECT, an experienced teacher or an aspirant Subject Leader looking for a second in department role. To be clear, we are advertising for either a Maths teacher or a Second in department.

Job Description
Reports to: ASL Mathematics and Computing
Responsible for: The learning experience and support for KS5 students. Developing KS5 Mathematics opportunities.
Allowance: TLR 2a
Overall purpose of the job
- As KS5 Coordinator, to lead, manage and develop specified areas of the KS5 Mathematics Curriculum as directed by the ASL for Mathematics
- To support in raising standards for provision and outcomes for post-16 Mathematics qualifications
- To work with the ASL for Mathematics & Computing to ensure the provision of an appropriate broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students studying KS5 Mathematics
- To work with other Mathematics leaders to develop the vision for Mathematics in school
- To ensure there are high standards of teaching and learning across Key Stage 5 in Maths through continuously, developing and enhancing the quality of teaching and learning
- To maintain expert knowledge of Teaching and Learning at KS5, keeping abreast of the latest research and publications, attending courses and disseminating great practice to members of the department
- To develop and enhance the teaching practice of others. This will include a mentor/coach role for ITT/ECT students within the department
Main Duties
Strategic Planning
- To work with colleagues to formulate aims, objectives and strategic plans for KS5 Mathematics developments in school which have coherence and relevance to the needs of students and to the aims, objectives, strategic and school development plans of the school
- To assist in leading the development of appropriate syllabi, resources, schemes of learning, assessment and teaching and learning strategies in KS5 Mathematics
- To promote Mathematics activities amongst staff, parents/carers and students
- To implement School Policies and Procedures, e.g. Homework Policy, Marking Policy, Behaviour Policy
- To ensure that Health and Safety policies and practices, including Risk Assessments, throughout the subjects are in line with national requirements and are updated where necessary, therefore liaising with the School’s Health and Safety Manager
Curriculum
- To lead developments in KS5 Mathematics activities and Curriculum Area
- To keep up to date with national developments in areas responsible for and teaching practices and methodologies, adapting policy and practice accordingly
- To actively monitor and respond to Mathematics developments and initiatives at national, regional and local levels
- To ensure that colleagues are fully aware of national developments in Mathematics
- To liaise with the ASL for Mathematics to ensure the delivery of an appropriate, comprehensive, high quality Mathematics programme which complements the School’s Strategic and Development Plan
- To actively promote Mathematics competitions within the Mathematics Curriculum and to take the lead on one/two per annum
Quality Assurance
- To implement school quality assurance procedures and to ensure the effective operation of quality control systems in areas responsible for.
- To monitor and evaluate KS5 Mathematics activities and the areas responsible for in line with agreed School procedures including evaluation against quality standards and performance criteria.
- To establish common standards of practice within the areas responsible for.
- To seek/implement modification and improvement where required within the areas responsible for
Management of Information
- To assist in the collection of data within the areas responsible for
- To make use of analyses and performance data for the areas responsible for
- To identify and take appropriate action on issues arising from data systems and reports; setting deadlines where necessary and reviewing progress on the action taken
- To liaise with the librarians to provide the best possible resources for all the students in the Learning Resource Centre
- To promote Mathematics related scholarships amongst students
Staffing
- To promote teamwork and motivate staff to ensure effective working relations
- To act as a positive role model in the Mathematics Curriculum and the school
- To ensure that appropriate study arrangements are made in the areas responsible for when staff are absent
Communications
- To ensure that all members involved in the areas responsible for are familiar with the aims and objectives of the Mathematics Curriculum and the school
- To ensure effective communication/consultation about Mathematics activities with parents and the press
Marketing and Liaison
- To contribute to the school liaison and marketing activities, eg the collection of material for press releases
- To assist in leading the Mathematics Curriculum at Open Days/Evening, Parents’ Evenings and other events
- To actively promote the development of effective Mathematics links with external agencies
Management of Resources
- To work with the ASL for Mathematics to ensure that the individual subjects’ teaching commitments are effectively and efficiently time-tabled and roomed.
Student Support
- To be a Form Tutor to an assigned group of students and perform all related duties in accordance with school policy and protocols
- To monitor and support the overall progress and development of students within the Area as responsible for
- To monitor student attendance in the areas responsible for
- To act as a Form Tutor and to carry out the duties associated with that role as outlined in the role of the Form Tutor information
- To contribute to PSHE, citizenship and enterprise curricula according to the school policy
- To monitor student attendance together with students’ progress and performance in relation to targets set for each individual; ensuring that follow-up procedures are adhered to and that appropriate action is taken in the areas responsible for
- To ensure the School’s Behaviour Management system is implemented in the core curriculum so that effective learning can take place

- To undertake an appropriate programme of teaching in accordance with the duties of a standard scale teacher
