- Tuesday: 8.00am - 4.30pm
- Wednesday & Thursday: 8.00am - 3.15pm
- Friday: 8.00am - 11.25am
Job Purpose:
To support the practical learning and enrichment experiences for pupils by managing resources, assisting with lesson preparation in practical subjects (Food Tech, DT, Science), maintaining equipment, and leading engaging activities that enhance student wellbeing and learning—including woodland play, breakfast club, and lunchtime enrichment.
Key Responsibilities:
Food Technology & Deliveries
- Organise and place weekly food orders for Food Technology lessons, in coordination with teaching staff.
- Ensure timely delivery, check for quality and completeness of items, and store ingredients appropriately.
- Maintain cleanliness, stock levels, and equipment readiness in the Food Technology room.
Design Technology (DT) & Science Support
- Check, clean, and maintain DT and Food Tech tools and equipment to ensure safety and functionality.
- Assist teachers in preparing materials for Science lessons, including setting up experiments and safely handling resources.
- Support with cleaning and storing science equipment after use.
- Undertake required training to use all specialist equipment.
Outdoor Learning & Play Support
- Set up and dismantle structured play trails and sensory activities in the school’s woodland or outdoor play areas.
- Supervise and support pupils during outdoor learning and play sessions to promote safe and meaningful engagement.
Enrichment Clubs
- Run a morning Breakfast Club, ensuring a calm and nourishing start to the day for students, including preparing and serving simple meals.
- Lead a Lunchtime Club that offers a safe and stimulating environment for students to engage in structured activities during their break.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Experience working with children or young people, preferably in a special educational needs (SEN) setting.
- Practical knowledge of food hygiene and safe use of kitchen/DT equipment/science equipment.
- Reliable, organised, and able to manage multiple tasks independently.
- Positive and patient attitude towards supporting pupils with additional needs.
- Experience putting in place efficient systems and practices for ordering items.
- Able to manage own time effectively and prioritise workload across the departments.
Desirable:
- Food hygiene certification (or willingness to complete training).
- First aid qualification.
- Experience in outdoor learning or forest school environments.

Thank you for expressing an interest in working at Fosse Way School.
Fosse Way School is a special school located in Radstock, just south of Bath on the edge of the Mendip hills. It is extremely popular and has 220 pupils on roll. Our pupils have moderate or severe learning difficulties, with many having communication and language difficulties, including a diagnosis of autism. Due to its popularity, it has been oversubscribed for a number of years. The school worked closely with an active parent support group which was successful in its bid to set up a new school – The Mendip School.
Fosse Way School is a member of The Partnership Trust, which is a multi-academy trust.
Fosse Way School runs the Specialist Autism Support Service a service commissioned by Bath and North East Somerset Local Authority to support autistic children and young adults up to the age of 25 across the county. We also run the local SEND network and behavior service. We were the first school in the UK to set up Project Search, a work-based supported internship, in conjunction with Bath Royal United Hospital. On site we run our training café Longfellows where students are able to take part in valuable work based learning opportunities. Fosse Way also has a residential provision for up to 12 students.
We would welcome applications from people who may currently be working in mainstream schools. A full training and support programme is offered to those who may not have previously worked in a special school.
