What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking to appoint an experienced and committed Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to join our school on a permanent, part-time basis (three days per week). This is a non-teaching role with a clear whole school leadership remit.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced SENCO with strategic vision and drive to shape and strengthen the future of SEND and inclusive practice at Mapperley Plains Primary School. We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting vulnerable children to achieve their best possible outcomes in terms of wellbeing, personal development and academic progress.

Working closely with the Head Teacher and wider leadership team, the SENCO will provide strategic and operational leadership of SEND and inclusion across the school. The post holder will play a central role in securing high quality inclusive education for all children, ensuring that provision for pupils with SEND contributes strongly to positive outcomes and whole school improvement.

This role also includes responsibility as the school’s Designated Teacher for looked after and previously looked after children. The postholder will have strategic oversight of provision, progress and wellbeing for these children and will work closely with the Virtual School, social care professionals and families to ensure that they are well supported and achieve their best possible outcomes.
