What skills and experience we're looking for

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an outstanding teacher to join our wonderful school in our Nurture Resource. The Nurture Resource consists of two mixed-age secondary classes, and supports our pupils with the highest level of need. We welcome applicants from a range of teaching backgrounds, including primary, secondary and/or special needs experience.

The candidate will be:

  • An inspirational teacher passionate about raising school standards and achievements for pupils with a range of SEND.
  • A teacher with a track record of making an impact on pupil progress and outcomes in a variety of subjects and beyond.
  • Keen to support pupils through a variety of qualifications.
  • An outstanding classroom practitioner.
  • A teacher with knowledge of the National Curriculum and how to adapt schemes of work to meet the range of needs of SEND learners.
  • Have a commitment to extra-curricular activity.
  • Someone who works collaboratively with different agencies in order to meet the needs of pupils.
  • Keen to share best practice with others through INSET/Outreach.
  • Someone who is highly organised and resilient.
  • Someone who puts safeguarding and child protection at the centre of practice.

Flexible working opportunities

  • The following criteria must be met:
  • • A teacher must be on a full-time contract.
  • • A teacher must have been employed by the school for at least 2 terms. This enables a reasonable assessment of performance.
  • • A teacher must have successfully completed their NQT year.
  • • A teacher’s overall practice and performance should be at least good, rapidly improving towards outstanding or already maintaining outstanding practice.

  • Compressed hours – A teacher may choose to compress their hours/workload into 4 days, rather than working on their ‘flexible working day’.
  • Flexible working – A teacher may choose to work on the weekend or evenings, rather than their ‘flexible working day’. A teacher may choose to work in school for part of the day and the remainder off site on their ‘flexible working day’.
  • Working from home, school or the community – A teacher may choose to work from home, school or the community etc. on their ‘flexible working day’.

Further details about the role

Purpose of Post: To provide outstanding teaching and learning to our Nurture classes. To provide outstanding teaching and learning to a variety of ages and for a variety of subjects.

The position will include:

  • The teaching of Nurture at KS3 and KS4 level.
  • The teaching of a range of subjects at KS3 and KS4.
  • Teaching and preparing pupils for relevant qualifications in various subjects.
  • 4. Supporting staff/pupils/parents in preparing pupils for secondary transfer.

    The teaching of Nurture (and other subjects) at KS3 and KS4 level.

    • To teach Nurture classes at KS3 and KS4.
    • To teach various subjects at KS3 and KS4 level.
    • To adapt schemes of work appropriately to meet the needs of pupils and to ensure they have the opportunity to experience success.
    • To deliver relevant accreditations/qualifications.
    • To ensure the effective implementation of all school policies, in particular the school's core policies in Safeguarding and Child Protection, Promoting Positive Behaviour, Assessment, Marking, Moderation and Reporting and Teaching and Learning.
    • To maintain and manage a stimulating and safe learning environment which enhances all pupils' learning opportunities.
    • To be aware of developments in SEND and disseminate relevant information to colleagues.
    • To plan and deliver extra-curricular activities, theme days and educational visits.

Woodlane High School is a successful purpose built community special school for pupils aged 11-16 years. We have an Ofsted rating of 'outstanding'.

We opened, on our present site, by the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham in February 2000 and provide specialist support for pupils with a range of barriers to learning.
