SENDCo job summary

Come and shape the next chapter of inclusion at Judith Kerr

Judith Kerr Primary School is a warm, vibrant and proudly bilingual English-German primary school in Herne Hill. Our vision is that children leave JKPS as confident, responsible global citizens, well prepared for the future through our bilingual education.

That ambition is for every child.

We want pupils with SEND not simply to access school, but to participate fully in everything that makes JKPS special: our ambitious curriculum, our bilingual education, enrichment opportunities and the life of our community. We want them to develop the confidence and independence to understand themselves as learners, the skills to advocate for what they need and the foundations to thrive beyond primary school.

Inclusion therefore sits at the heart of our school vision. We believe every child should feel that they belong, that they are understood and that they can succeed. SEND provision is not something that happens on the edge of school life or rests with one person; it is about excellent teaching, ambitious expectations and adults who understand children deeply and know how to remove barriers to learning.

We are now looking for an exceptional SENDCo to help us take the next step.

There is much to build on. Pupils with SEND achieve well from their starting points, our pastoral provision is strong, and our staff care deeply about getting things right for children. We are also clear on the direction for the next stage of our development: we want staff to understand individual needs even more deeply, for effective adaptations to become consistently embedded in everyday classroom practice and for our teams to work closer with families to ensure we offer an exceptional provision to all.

This is what makes the opportunity exciting. We are not looking for someone simply to manage SEND systems. We are looking for a leader who can shape practice.

Our new SENDCo will have the opportunity to develop staff expertise, strengthen our graduated approach, sharpen how we evaluate the impact of provision and ensure that our inclusive ambition is experienced consistently by every child, in every classroom. You will work closely with teachers, leaders, families and external professionals to ensure that provision is precisely matched to need while maintaining high expectations for what every pupil can achieve.

Ultimately, we want you to help us answer one important question:

What does our vision of confident, responsible global citizens, well prepared for the future, look like for every child at JKPS - and what do we need to put in place to make sure they get there?

Prospective candidates are warmly encouraged to visit the school and experience the JKPS community for themselves. Please contact admin@judithkerr.anthemtrust.uk to arrange a visit.
